MATHEMATICS AT RUTHVEN P.S.

The Ruthven Primary School Mathematics Program aims to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge so that they can deal confidently and competently with daily life. The topics of Number, Measurement, Chance and Data, Space, Working Mathematically and Structure are covered throughout Years Prep to Six. Number is the main focus and includes counting, place value, addition/subtraction and multiplication/division. Teachers engage the students by relating tasks to real life. Open-ended problems are challenging and encourage independent thinking skills. The children are able to access Mathletics online which caters for individuals to improve their concepts of numeracy. It provides fun, animated, interactive activities. The school participates in nationwide events such as the Australian Mathematics Competition and Reach For The Stars.
