·
All students are provided with stimulating and challenging curriculum based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standards(VELS).The VELS curriculum taught is broken into three strands

Health and Physical Education, Interpersonal Development, Personal Learning and Civics and Citizenship.
Discipline Based Learning
Within the Discipline based strand the learning domains are:

Program implementation and teaching practices at the classroom level are based on small cooperative groups and an inquiry learning approach. To helps us achieve this we utilise the e5 instructional model along with the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) Primary Years Program(PYP). The PYP focuses on the heart as well as the mind and addresses social, physical, emotional and cultural needs as well as academic ones.
Ruthven is a school, which provides a variety of programs to cater for the special needs and abilities of its students. These include specialist Art and Music programs, Perceptual Motor Program for younger students, camping, swimming, Junior School Council, Mathematics and Literacy extension programs, computers clubs and a comprehensive integration program.
A feature of the school culture is the harmonious relationship, which exists between staff, parents and students and the focus on our school values. The atmosphere in the school reflects feelings of mutual trust, good will and co-operation which is assisted by a variety of communication strategies used to consult, involve and inform parents. Students and teachers are continually challenged to improve themselves. This results in a stimulating and exciting learning environment.
